Our Landscape Lighting Design Process
Our ultimate goal when designing your landscape lighting system is to accentuate your landscaping and create the right ambiance that you're after. Our design process involves choosing the types of lights and the fixtures to be used, determining the exact placement and orientation of the lights, selecting the appropriate lighting levels and color temperature to create the desired visual effect, and lastly what type of control system to use.
Here are the steps involved in our landscape lighting design process:
- Identify the goals and objectives: Before starting the design process, it's important to identify the purpose of the lighting. Is it for security, a dynamic night time look, or both? What specific features in your landscape do you really want the lighting to highlight or accentuate?
- Survey the site: Next, we walk around the site and take note of the existing features, such as trees, shrubs, pathways, and structures. We need to consider how these features will be affected by the lighting and how they can be used to enhance the overall design.
- Choose the types of lights and fixtures: There are many different types of landscape lighting fixtures to choose from, including spotlights, path lights, and floodlights. We need to consider the style and theme of the landscape, as well as the type of bulbs and controls that will be used.
- Determine the placement and orientation of the lights: We will decide where the lights will be placed and how they will be oriented. We'll need to consider the height and angle of the lights, as well as the distances between the fixtures to ensure we get the best coverage. Hired Haughey Brothers Landscaping this year to do a major drainage project that would divert water accumulating at the base of the front of my house to stop basement and garage flooding that was occuring after major rain events. The project worked great and the flooding has stopped. Adding some photos that show the work being done and videos that show the water not accumulating in front of the house and one video showing the water being diverted down my driveway at the back of my house down to the street.

I needed something relatively urgent done, and they were able to meet up, quote, change/revise quote for some other options, and on a short notice, they were able to accommodate a next day project done that originally was planned for at least 3-4 weeks out. I can't say enough good things about how professional, friendly, courteous and on time they always were each time they came to our home. They also left their work area very clean at the end of each day which is very important. What had started out as simply replacing a tired old swing set playground in our backyard turned into much more. They showed us previous work photos they did for fire pits with patios and we were immediately hooked. We are incredibly happy with our new backyard fire pit area and cannot wait to use it. They picked out beautiful plants and shrubs for the surrounding fire pit bed and also installed lighting into the pavers. It looks so pretty at night. They completed the job in record time too!!!
