Haughey Brothers Landscaping is a landscaping contractor based out of Westfield, New Jersey and serving Union County, including: Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Cranford, Madison, Mountainside, Scotch Plains, Short Hills, Springfield, and Summit. We specialize in renovating, revitalizing, and restoring, neglected and overgrown front, side, or backyard garden beds. If you don't currently have any garden beds but would like to add some, we also offer design and installation of new garden beds too.

How Do We Design and Construct New Garden Beds?
We have a specific process that we put into action to build new or restore your garden beds. Our customers are thrilled with the improvement to their curb appeal and "new look" we're able to give their property.
Step #1. You need to request a consultation and estimate. We will come to your property, look at your current garden beds or the areas you'd like new beds installed. We take accurate measurements so we know how much soil and/or mulch is going to be required and what we're going to need for plantings.
Step #2. We discuss the plantings and materials you'd like to use. We typically try and use low-maintenance materials when possible. These include low-maintenance native plants or bushes (suitable for zone 7a), river rock and stone, or mulch. Plantings can vary depending on the time of year, the amount of color or interest you'd like, and what is currently available at our local nurseries. We always choose plants that will do well in our climate.
Step #3. We can provide you with a hand-drawn or 3D garden bed design that will outline the shape, and plantings that will be used for your new garden beds. We can work with you to adjust and fine-tune the design if needed.
Step# 4. Once you've accepted the design and approved our estimate we can get to work! We start by cleaning out your existing garden beds, removing all of the brush and overgrowth. We re-establish an edge to the beds so they have a clear and distinct separation from your lawn, walkway, driveway, or other hardscaping.
Step #5. With the beds cleaned out and edged we can begin to layout the new plantings. From here we can fine-tune the placement of the new plants to determine what is going to look the best, taking into consideration future growth, and the look you're trying to achieve.
Step #6. With the new plantings installed, we can then fill in the garden beds with new soil, mulch, river rock, stone, or whatever material you'd like to have in the beds. We always recommend mulch or stone for a beautiful, uniform appearance, and very low maintenance requirements.

This is an average price range for the projects you see above. This would include bed clean-up, re-establishing bed edging, new bed plant layout and design, selection of new plantings, topped with mulch, decorative stone, or river rock, all labor, and site cleanup would also be included.

This summer was our first with Haughey Brothers Landscaping and we couldn’t be more pleased. Their work was top notch, they were fair in their pricing, and I was impressed at how quickly they responded to any texts or calls. They offer many lawn services but didn’t push the ones you didn’t want. We used them this weekend after a heavy snowfall to snowplow the driveway and walkway and they did an amazing job. My wife called many snow removal people and companies based on neighbor recommendations. However, they did not return phone calls, or promised to visit and give an estimate, but never did so. Finally, my wife called Haughey Brothers Landscaping based on their Google reviews. My wife spoke on Friday with a polite lady in their office. This lady emailed my wife an estimate for their regular service based on a Google satellite image of our property on Saturday. I spoke with a man in their office on Monday. I asked for one-time removal of the existing snow and ice. The main said that I need to sign their regular contract first in order to have a one-time removal of existing snow and ice. I signed both contracts a few minutes later. The man promised to send a crew the same day, To my surprise, a truck carrying a skid-steer loader arrived at my property around 4:30pm the same day. The driver cleared my driveway, and then used a shovel to clean the parts that the loader missed. He then clearned by walkway and steps with a shovel, and finally spread a generous amount of ice melter on my driver. I did not have to tell him to clear this or that part of the driver that he missed. My review is based on the one-time cleanup Haughey Brothers did for me. I will update this review after the season will end to include my experience with their regular snow removal contract. In summary, I paid much and got an excellent service.
I no longer need to be concerned when a snowstorm hits my area, since Haughey Brothers Landscaping takes care of my snow removal. I work at a hospital, and I HAVE to be available to get to work on time--snow is not an excuse! This is my 2nd year using their snow removal services. Highly recommend them! They also are polite, professional, and easy to work with.

We had a fantastic experience working with Haughey Brothers Landscaping to redo our fence, retaining wall, patio, and sod. Going into it, we weren’t sure how to navigate the different needs of our yard, but they walked us through every option, broke the project into clear phases, and provided detailed estimates for each, working with us to stay within budget. Initially, we expected the work to start much later, possibly not until August. Just two weeks after our first conversation, everything was done! The fence is flawless, the retaining wall is solid and clean, and the new grass looks incredible. They stayed in touch every step of the way, sticking to both timelines and costs. At one point, a miscommunication led to part of our yard being cleared of grass while we weren’t home. We were surprised to come back and see it, but the team responded right away with a thoughtful solution and made sure everything was restored quickly and seamlessly. That kind of responsiveness and care really stood out. We just hosted our first backyard BBQ this past weekend, and for the first time, we’re truly able to enjoy our outdoor space. Haughey Brothers will be my top choice for all future lawn projects!
